The Mayor of the Town of Maxton is an elected position and serves as the official head of the Town. The Mayor presides over Council meetings.  serves as the chief representative of the people, presides over Council meetings, establishes laws that are meant to benefit the people of the community, appoints officials, and cares out various administrative duties for the town.

Christopher Bethea-McDougal was elected Mayor of the Town of Maxton in November 2023 and his four-year term expires in November, 2027.

Town manager

The Town of Maxton operates under the Council-Manager form of government in which a professionally qualified Town manager is appointed and serves at the pleasure of the Town Council. The Town Manager serves as the chief administrative officer for Town government and manages the town’s day-to-day operations based upon the goals and objectives adopted and policies and directives expressed by the elected Mayor and Town Council. The Town Manager takes an oath to protect citizens’ safety, health and welfare by enforcing Federal, State and Local laws and regulations.

On Tuesday, April 20, 2021, Ms. Angela Pitchford was sworn in as the Town Manager of Maxton.  Ms. Pitchford has 26 years of local government experience and has served as the Interim Town Manager of Maxton in recent years.

Town Clerk

Before buying a business property or signing a lease, call or come by the Town of Maxton Town Hall Office located at 201 McCaskill Avenue. Calling or stopping by the Town Hall Office to interact will the Zoning Officer will ensure that the property location and business you wish to open is zoned for your intended use. The Zoning Officer will guide you through the business process and direct you to other North Carolina Departments that may have State requirements for the business you want to open such as the Health Department, Fire Department, Building Inspection, etc.
